Italian wedding traditions?

My fianc� is Irish and Scottish, and during our wedding ceremony, he will be giving me a sash of his family's colors/tartan and placing it on my shoulders. Anyone know if there is an equivalent for Italian culture, something that I can give to him, as a symbol of welcoming him into my Italian family?
