How to track my italian family?

I'm 16 and i want to track my italian relatives (my great grand mother were from italy), i know there are some of them is england (i live in manchester) and of course some in italy but i don't know how to get in touch with them (i don't want to go on websites like ancestry.co.uk, i tried these before and it was no good). How can i find out more about my family like where there from, when they were born, hell i don't even know what my great grand mother first name was, all i have is her maiden name. This is my mother side of the family, sadly i can't ask her because she died 2 years ago. How can i track my family down?? Please help
