How is Dante's depiction of Beatrice not appropriate?

Dante depicts Beatrice as his inspiration, his love, his guide. Can you help me with some ideas on why Beatrice's character is not appropriate or even not necessary? Why does Dante depict her the way he does? Is there evidence that shows that she hinders the journey? Maybe what Dante feels for her is lust and not love? Any comments? Thanks for your help.
