Old Japanese original Shinigami depiction?

So what I know about them already is the are the personification of death in Japanese lore and the name literally translates into "Death Gods" or "Death spirits". I know the idea came around the time of the black plague from Europe to Japan. I know the don't appear very often Japanese legions, but is there a actual set depiction of what they would look like?
